Moonrise over Mt Hood - MikePDX

Larch Mountain Viewpoint, Oregon

I got myself into position for the Super Moon to rise exactly over Mt Hood Oregon. But clouds obscured the actual moonrise. Finally they cleared away enough to get a glimpse of the mountain peak and the moon.

Thanks for the good comments, everyone. This was one of those "if only..." shots. I used The Photographer's Ephemeris to locate a vantage point where the moon would rise directly over Mt Hood. Due to other priorities, I went one day before the actual full moon. But clouds obscured the moonrise, and by the time clouds had cleared a bit the moon was quite far from the mountain. For anyone familiar with the area, this was shot at the Larch Mountain Viewpoint, east of Portland.

I like very much this landscape, specially how the mountain pops out from the clouds. At first, you can miss it, but then you see it, as a god that watches the World.

At first glance The area of land itself looks huge, then cloud area looks even bigger, then it all dwarfs when you see Mount Hood peeking through the clouds and as a bonus you got the super moon. A very nice image - Michael

Your shot is beautiful Mike. I took a few shots last night of the 'super moon'. I don't think any are great as I didn't have the tripod with and just took them off my car hood. Then the invasion of the mosquitos ran me off in very short haste. The mountain and moon look great in the shot together. Despite the clouds you still got a shot off. Shirley

How lovely this is! The cloud bank, with the mountain peeking/peaking behind it, adds a very nice horizontal element.
