.. seems they never got the chance to complete it.

yes they are huge and with the tools they used in those days must have taken a very long time to get to this stage.

Well I think it was an apprentice practice site. The instructor said, " Before I let you guys loose on the real thing, you have one month to show me what you can do",,,,,

We just don't build em like we used to! That collum to the left is HUGE. Instead of building a big collum and moving it into place these look to be carved on location. Do you think they were meant to be moved or was the entire building being built into the rocks? Really a great photo. The people really emphasize the size of these things.
