Brad, they use these to haul in the nets. There are usually 3 of these and I guess the old netting you can see is there just to stop the nets slipping when they are being brought in.

I do not usually talk about, fishing because in my younger days just a bobber, and a few blue gills, but this is a little more complex, item,, it does look like great cantraption,,, but does it actually catch fish? (?)
