Thanks for the comment Stefan,
Actually it was in the extreme heat of the day and it was burrowed in to stay cool as in preparing for its summer estivation. It was easy to spot as it kept burrowing in the same spot and its burrow got deeper every day. It was right at a patch of gladiolus that I had to hand water and it didn't particularly like getting sprinkled. -- Bob K.
