I am not in a city, so we don't have ordinances like that. But I did cut 3 holes in the bottom with a jackhammer for drainage. Here in Phoenix, we only get 7-10" of rain/year, so no worries there.

What a pity, it sure looks like it would have been a very nice pool at one time. You should keep a photographic journal of the transformation of your back yard. It's hard to even imagine grass on your backyard right now. :o)

In my town, one is not allowed to simply fill in an in-ground pool. It has to be broken up which is usually half the cost of repairing it.

When something has to go wrong, can't go ok by no means... It looks ugly now but I think you made the right decision!

Bought a foreclosure house and they had pumped out all the dirty water from the pool and put in fresh. It looked amazing. But the pump motor was nearly shot, the filter was on its last leg and all the pool lining was coming off. $10k+ in repairs if we wanted to keep it. Luckily we didn't really want a pool anyway. Also, turns out most of the thing is 7+ feet deep! You can't stand in it!

The jacuzzi was a similar story (now in it's new location)

It does make a GREAT fire pit though! We're going to fill it in and put our fake grass over the pool area for a play area instead.
