This iron ring is set into solid basalt at Prim Point, NS. There's been a lighthouse on this point since 1817; the ring itself is very old. It would have been used to secure lines, possibly from a supply boat or other craft, and conjures up images of childhood when I spent each July and August in a rented cottage by the ocean. Every little cove has its share of boulders with these old tie rings driven into them and as a kid, I wondered how it was possible to accomplish that. I still do!
