I agree, its not quite there. My model wouldn't cooperate for long enough to get it right, some excuse about getting too hot wrapped up in black sheeting.... I'll have to deal with her like the other :-)

I really like the idea Colin, but I agree with Kleivis, it looks a little too bright and clear, maybe some pp could mysterify it some more? Great entry anyway. Alistair

I like this, and keep coming back to it. But I also just wondered ..what if the skin was a bit darker or we just saw slightly less of her skin? Would it be slightly more oriantal or mysterious? Don't know for sure, this is just some thaugts I have.

Hey Goffen, good guess, almost spot on. One on floor, softbox with no difuser to graduate the light on the background, one high right and behind with grid to give rim light with no spill and one just above camera position in umbrella box as the key light.
Oh, and a slightly unwilling (it was very hot!) subject wrapped in 5m of black muslin :-)

I really like the lighting on this. And those black eyes are perfect.

Great strobist stuff. Or do you have proper studio lights?

My guess: One high right front, one low behind, and catchlight on camera (the popup remote controller?) ?

Thanks shirley.
This was an exercise in lighting for me, had a lot of fun setting up - but it was a warm evening and my subject got overheated very quickly :-)

There she is, the great story teller! I love her eyes looking out from under the black and the tones of her skin seem to be perfect! I enjoy the photo and your subject.
