The title is perfect for this unique scene. I'm guessing the snow has accumulated to a considerable depth, as it looks thick and compacted.

Great shot - you've placed the viewer right there on that road.

I am guessing the poles are edge of road markers? They give the road the feeling of a ship or roiling serpent. The ice/ snow has the permanent look to it. Here in MN it finally has given way to Spring...

This pass is between two of the largest cities in Norway, and the hight is about 1200 m. This time of the year is nice and beautiful, tempting for skiing, but it can be harsh during winter months.

Such a sight to see! You know the snow gets deep when the only way to find the road is with poles lining the sides of it. I know I've driven in a few blizzards where I wished we had poles like that but poles that glowed like light sabers in Star Wars.
