14-MAR-2009 Shirley Haden

3rd - Winter's Thaw (Doe on Lake Ice)-Shirley
by Shirley Haden

The warmth of the sun warms her,
A gentle southern breeze blows,
Spring promises to soothe her hunger,
While a young one in her grows.

Soon patches of green grass
Reach up from the melting snow.
The gift of spring, the gift she brings
One of the best gifts I know.

Great combination of poem and doe, Shirley!

Oh and Goffen, if you read this, I do have them in my backyard so to speak. The state park which is where most of my deer shots come from is only a 5 minute drive from my place. So it is sorta my back yard. When we move, I'll really really miss this place! I'll still drive down to see it as much as I can. With any luck I'll find some new deer to pester with my camera and an apple for a treat now and then. :o)

Coming from you Brenda, I feel much better now! But, when we finally get moved into a different (newer) place I still would love a poem from you. I really would cherish it so very much!

Fabulous shot!! The water on the ice lends such interesting colors and patterns. The doe herself is exquisite. And then there's your poem ... from the heart, rhythmic, nicely rhymed. There's more than one gift in evidence here: hers, and yours.

Shirley this is a wonderful new perspective of your deer(s) and the poem fits so very well and I enjoyed reading it over several times

As usual i love your deer shots. (And i wonder how you can move from where you live now, as i understand you have them in your backyard)

Lovely poem as well.

The stripes of the puddles really accentuates the deer nicely. All the shortcuts she took across the lake all winter soon to be gone. good stuff Shirley!

Shirley lovley light and I like the soft nearly pastel colours. The reflections break up the photo nicely.

Like the words very much, too. Didn't saw them at once with the picture. Simple and true and yours, what is the most important.

I asked Myself what is with your love and gift for wildlife photos. And here it is in the best manner. Shirley, this is beautiful.
