old man oak - Colin

Farliegh Wallop

Only a couple of miles from where I live there is a high point on the chalk downs of northern Hampshire; the first place I went to try out the E500 when I first got it.

In the middle of the small plateau at the top of the hill is this ancient oak tree, still alive but completely hollow inside, all alone in the middle of field.
It’s a location I return to often, I suppose this is my equivalent of Bill’s lighthouse :-)

Makes sense to me now. Thanks, Colin.

Thanks for the comments. Stefan, your not wrong, the sun was behind me with a row of trees shading the field.
Just before sunset, for a minute or two, the whole 360 degrees of the horizon turned orange-pink.
I think the phenomenon was something to do with the filtered sun reflecting off the snow cover back into the low misty haze.

Lovely shot, Colin. The light confuses me, though: The sky says the sun is going up/down behind the tree, but the moon says the sun is behind you. Of course, I could be crazy - just ask my wife :-))

This is beautiful, man. Both the tree and the way you've photographed it. endika

Perfect light to capture this distinguished soul. It must have seen some changes...

How lovely! This has a dreamlike quality, as if the tree belongs to a legendary time and place. The delicate hues of the sky add to its appeal.
