Bruce, I visited the site. Thanks for the history lesson. A truly excellent image. I like this one much better that what was posted in wikipedia.

Thanks all. I knew this would catch the late sun, but hard to get a good angle. I scrambled down the bank and onto a low wall. The cloud was nicely timed.

Fabulous! I'm in awe - of the place itself, and of the clarity and composition. Your eye has seen such a glorious opportunity and made the most of it.

I like the reflection of the small tunnel, but can not decide why. the overall image is very pleasing to look at. well done.

This is very nice. The downtoned reflections work very well.

What an fantastic shot! Your mirrored reflection of an already great scene became doubly great! I love the nice blue sky, rich greens, and the wonderful yellow stone of this grand bridge! I should have looked at the link first but, I'm off now to go read about this wonderful sight.

Yes amazing what you can do with an army of serfs and a few years - no JCBs back then : )
I see what you mean about the tower Art!

WOW! You could easily rotate this 90^ and have a different striking photo of a tower

Thanks both. Lots of history here Carlo. Vanbrugh built the palace and bridge starting around 1705, but Capability brown landscaped the park in 1764, creating the lake and improving the look of the rather monstrous bridge. Churchill was born here. Lots more on the Wikipedia link I've added above.
