Excellent capture Woody! I would have cropped it a little closer because driver's pose is fantastic :-) Frederic

...I had something like this in mind when I did my sterile attempt to shot some bikes in motion. You have nailed it, this one is priceless. endika

Fantastic shot. I have spent many hours trying to photograph bikes in Penang under similar circumstances and the best I can do is about 1/40 sec and still get a sharp image. You have got a steady panning technique. I love the rich colours too.

Pretty close. But I think you need to calculate how far I was away from the trees, since I was standing in one place and pivoting you need to work out the angular rotation. You have your homework assignment ;) --- Woody

Hmmmm. looks to be going about 45 mph? Each streak is about 5 ft long in 1/13 sec. so:5*13 = 75 feet/per sec (* 60 secs * 60 min / 5280 ft/mile) = 44.3 mph :-)

This is a very cool shot Woody - whether you agree with the simplistic math or not (LOL)

It's very well done, geting a good panning shot like this is not easy. The pose of the rider is just perfect too. This inspires me to go find somewhere to try this out.

Shirley, no magic or secrets. This is Skyline Blvd in Oakland. This end has Redwood groves on either side of the road, and is only 5-mins from my house. On the weekend there is a (nearly) steady stream of two-wheel traffic. Yesterday afternoon I spent about half an hour sitting along the edge of the road panning as the came by. M-mode pre-focus on the yellow lines follow and snap. The hand on the hip was just luck (he was looking for his buddy right behind him). --- Woody
