Rafferty Creek (Sept 2023)

Dave invited me to another hike with his kids, this time to a loop around the Vogelsang High Sierra camp. In the end, we were still short of permit spots, and rushed to get a last-minute walk-in spot. We barely managed to get a spot for Nelson Lake trail instead of Rafferty Creek. That gave me the opportunity to explore the cross-country connection between Elisabeth Lake and Rafferty Creek. After a nice hike with good views of the incoming clouds I joined the larger group at camp at Boothe Lake (9850ft). Overnight the weather turned bad. We decided to continue but by the time all gear was packed up the rain had helped change our plans. We hiked back out covered in trash bags and rain ponchos. Dave lud mich zu einer weiteren Wanderung mit seinen Kindern ein, dieses Mal zu einer Runde um das Vogelsang High Sierra Camp. Am Ende fehlten uns immer noch ein Permit Platz, und so beeilten wir uns, in letzter Minute ein Permit zu bekommen. Wir schafften gerade einen Platz für den Nelson Lake Trail anstelle von Rafferty Creek zu bekommen. Das gab mir die Gelegenheit, cross-country zwischen Elisabeth Lake und Rafferty Creek zu erkunden. Nach einer schönen Wanderung mit guter Aussicht auf die aufziehenden Wolken schloss ich mich der größeren Gruppe im Camp am Boothe Lake (3000m) an. Über Nacht wurde das Wetter schlecht. Wir beschlossen weiterzugehen, aber als die gesamte Ausrüstung eingepackt war, hatte der Regen dazu beigetragen unsere Pläne zu ändern. Wir wanderten bedeckt mit Müllsäcken und Regenponchos zurück.
