Pear Lake Hut (Jan 2024)

This outing with Bill confirmed my firm belief that Sierra ski season starts late February at best. There was low snow coverage, no consolidated base, and many barely hidden rocks. The skis took a good beating. But great weather and views and an OK hut. We met Morgan who joined us on our morning tour but soon he disappeared ahead of us up the mountain. Diese Tour mit Bill bestätigte meine feste Überzeugung, dass die Skisaison in Sierra bestenfalls Ende Februar beginnt. Es gab nur eine geringe Schneedecke, keinen festen Untergrund und viele kaum versteckte Steine. Die Skier mussten einiges ausgehalten. Aber tolles Wetter, gute Aussicht, und eine passable Hütte. Wir trafen Morgan, der uns auf unserer morgendlichen Tour begleitete, aber bald verschwand er vor uns den Berg hinauf.
