Cerro Noroeste (Mar 2023)

Bill, James, & I are using a short window between storms to test a local mountain. Cerro Noroeste (8283 ft) is a sub-peak of Mt Pinos. We can drive to about 6150ft and hike up the fairly flat road until we can access the more direct ridge to the top. James had a significant health problem early on; he passes out and falls over. Turns out he donated blood the previous day and does not seem fully recovered. But he just pushes through once he is back on his feet. Overall this is not a worthy ski mountain with dense brush and trees between 6400 and 7000ft elevation. Above the winter hike is nice and Bill and I do a short extra lap from the cabin at the top while James tries to recover. Bill, James und ich nutzen ein kurzes Wetterfenster zwischen den Stürmen um einen lokalen Berg zu testen. Cerro Noroeste (2525m) ist ein Nebengipfel von Mt. Pinos. Wir können bis auf etwa 1875m fahren und die ziemlich flache Straße hinaufwandern, bis wir den etwas direkteren Rücken zum Gipfel erreichen können. James hatte schon früh ein erhebliches Gesundheitsproblem; er wird ohnmächtig und fällt um. Es stellte sich heraus, dass er am Vortag Blut gespendet hatte und offenbar noch nicht vollständig erholt war. Aber sobald er wieder auf den Beinen ist, marschiert er einfach weiter. Insgesamt ist dies kein empfehlenswerter Skiberg mit dichtem Gestrüpp und Bäumen zwischen 1950 und 2100m Höhe. Darüber ist die Winterwanderung schön und Bill und ich machen eine kurze extra Ski-Runde von der Hütte nahe dem höchsten punkt, während James versucht, sich zu erholen.
