Minarets (June 2020)

There was a brief lull in the Covid infection rate and a hike acceptable when Dave suggested the Minarets. We avoided crowds and stops at restaurants, but we had a good outing in the mountains. When we hiked to Thousand Island Lake (9850ft), the weather was still gloomy, but when we woke up the next morning all was perfect. We continued cross-country below Mt Banner and past Nydiver Lakes to camp (10,400ft) below the Ritter Banner saddle. Next day we climbed Mt Ritter (13,157ft) from the north and descended the south-eastern snowfields back to camp. We continued past Iceberg Lake, Cecile Lake, Minaret Lakes, Devils Postpile, and hiked River Trail back to Agnew Meadows to close the loop. Mitte Juni gab es eine kurze Flaute bei der Covid-Infektionsrate als Dave eine Tour in die Minarets vorschlug. Wir vermieden Menschenmassen und Stopps in Restaurants und hatten eine schöne Tour in die Sierra. Als wir zum Thousand Island Lake (3000m) wanderten, war das Wetter noch düster, aber als wir am nächsten Morgen aufwachten, war alles perfekt. Wir wanderten querfeldein unterhalb Mt. Banner und vorbei an den Nydiver Lakes, um unterhalb des Ritter-Banner-Saddle zu campen (3170m). Am nächsten Tag bestiegen wir Mount Ritter (4006m) von Norden und stiegen über die südöstlichen Schneefelder zurück zum Lager. Weiter ging es vorbei an Iceberg Lake, Cecile Lake, Minaret Lakes, Devils Postpile und zurueck zu Agnew Meadows Trailhead auf River Trail.
