Father-daughter hike north of Yosemite National Park with Paula and her friend Sam. After a long drive we met up at the campground at the trailhead where we spent the night. A nice trail along West Walker River led us into the Humboldt-Toiyabe wilderness until the anticipated big river crossing near Fremont Lake. The water was hip-deep but not too fast moving to be dangerous. Soon afterwards we reached Fremont Lake and suddenly we were accompanied by many mosquitos. We found a nice remote campsite above the lake with good views of Tower Peak, the most dominant peak in the entire drainage. Next morning, we continued towards Cinko Lake along the Chain of Lakes and Long Lakes. Mosquitos were a big nuisance all along that hike and we decided not to continue to Cinco Lake and camped near the PCT footbridge over West Fork West Walker River to be able to have a campfire as bug deterrent. From there we had nice views on a short hike around camp. The hike out to the trailhead brought much mosquito terror early, especially at the big creek crossing near Lower Piute Meadows. But the further we hiked the less the bugs were harassing us and after a long day we were back at the trailhead campground for another night before going our separate ways home in the morning.

Vater-Tochter-Wanderung nördlich des Yosemite-Nationalparks mit Paula und ihrer Freundin Sam. Nach einer langen Fahrt trafen wir uns auf dem Campingplatz am Trailhead, wo wir die Nacht verbrachten. Ein schöner Weg entlang des West Walker River führte uns in die Humboldt-Toiyabe-Wildnis bis zur erwarteten großen Flussüberquerung in der Nähe des Fremont Lake. Das Wasser war hüfttief, bewegte sich aber nicht schnell genug um gefährlich zu sein. Bald darauf erreichten wir den Fremont Lake und plötzlich wurden wir von vielen Moskitos begleitet. Wir fanden einen schönen abgelegenen Campingplatz oberhalb des Sees mit guter Aussicht auf Tower Peak, den dominantesten Gipfel im ganzen Tal. Am nächsten Morgen wanderten wir weiter in Richtung Cinko Lake entlang der Chain of Lakes und Long Lakes. Moskitos waren während der gesamten Wanderung ein großes Ärgernis und wir beschlossen, nicht weiter zum Cinco Lake zu gehen, und machten Camp in der Nähe der PCT-Fußgängerbrücke über den West Fork West Walker River, um als Insektenschutz ein Lagerfeuer machen zu können. Von dort aus hatten wir bei einer kurzen Wanderung rund um das Lager eine schöne Aussicht. Die Wanderung zum Trailhead brachte anfangs große Moskitoplage mit sich, besonders an der großen Bachüberquerung in der Nähe von Lower Piute Meadows. Aber je weiter wir wanderten, desto weniger belästigten uns die Insekten und nach einem langen Tag waren wir für eine weitere Nacht wieder am Campingplatz beim Trailhead, bevor wir uns am Morgen getrennt auf den Heimweg machten.
