Mt Lewis & Kid Mountain (Feb 2019)

A weekend of touring with Paul, Anton, and Andrew. On Saturday attempted to go to Mt Lewis, but our plan was thwarted from the start when our car got stuck in soft bottomless snow rich after leaving the 395. Luckily there were people living close by in a trailer and used their truck to pull our car out. Then - much delayed - we started a long flat hike towards the mountain that we abandoned when we were at about 9500ft after gaining about 2700ft elevation with great views on Mono Lake. The upper 1000ft drop of skiing was a good tree-run before we were back on the long flat roads back to the car. On Sunday it was with Paul and Anton. The road to Glacier Lodge was cleared right to where we need it and we ascended the endless steep chute from the car at 7250ft to about 10,700ft, short of the actual summit at 11,896ft but with the full chute of more than 3000ft elevation difference to ski. Unfortunately, the snow conditions were not ideal with a lot of breaking crust. Ein Wochenende auf Tour mit Paul, Anton und Andrew. Am Samstag versuchten wir Mt. Lewis zu befahren, aber unser Plan wurde von Anfang an durchkreuzt, als unser Auto nach dem Verlassen des 395 in weichem, bodenlosem Schnee stecken blieb. Zum Glück wohnten Leute in der Nähe und benutzten ihren Pickup, um unser Auto raus zu ziehen aus. Dann begannen wir – mit großer Verspätung – eine lange flache Wanderung in Richtung des Berges, den wir aufgaben, als wir uns auf einer Höhe von etwa 2900m befanden, nach etwa 800m Aufstieg und schöner Aussicht auf Mono Lake. Der erste 300m hohe Waldabfahrt war gut, bevor wir uns wieder auf den langen, flachen Straßen zurück zum Auto befanden. Am Sonntag war es mit Paul und Anton. Die Straße zu Glacier Lodge war genau soweit geräumt wie wir brauchten, und wir stiegen vom Auto aus von ca 2200m über die endlose steile Rinne bis etwa 3260m auf. Unser höchster Punkt war vor dem eigentlichen Gipfel auf 3626m, aber mit der vollen 1000m hohen Rinne unter uns. Leider waren die Schneebedingungen nicht ideal und es gab viel Bruchharsch.
