Many Lake Basins (Aug 2025)

This loop was with a larger group than usual, with Paula, Bill, James and his friend Frazier. We started from Mineral King (7800ft), hiked past Monarch Lakes, over Glacier Pass (11,080ft, cl 3) to Spring Lake. From there we traversed to Black Rock Pass trail, over the pass (11,680ft) and descended through Little Five Lakes Basin to camp at Big Arroyo (9,520ft). A leisurely day to camp at Nine Lakes Basin (10,460ft) and an evening stroll to Precipice Lake followed. The following day we climbed Mt Stewart (12,200ft, cl 2) with great views of the Kaweahs. On day 5 we hiked from Nine Lakes Basin through Little Five Lakes Basin to Big Five Lakes Basin where we camped at remote Lake 10,214. On the last day we climbed over the challenging Bilko Pass (11,400ft, cl 3) and hiked over Sawtooth Pass (11,720ft) back to Mineral King. Diese Runde war mit einer größeren Gruppe als sonst: mit Paula, Bill, James und dessen Freund Frazier. Wir starteten in Mineral King (2375 m), wanderten an den Monarch Lakes vorbei, über den Glacier Pass (3380 m, I) bis zum Spring Lake (3066m). Von dort querten wir hinüber zum Black Rock Pass Trail, überschritten den Pass (3560 m) und stiegen durch das Little Five Lakes Basin hinab, um im Big Arroyo (2900 m) zu zelten. Ein gemütlicher Tag führte uns in die Nine Lakes Basin (3185 m), gefolgt von einem Abendspaziergang zum Precipice Lake. Am nächsten Tag bestiegen wir Mt. Stewart (3720 m, I-II) mit großartigem Blick auf die Kaweahs. Am 5. Tag wanderten wir von Nine Lakes Basin durch Little Five Lakes Basin zur Big Five Lakes Basin, wo wir am abgelegenen Lake 10,214 (3110m) lagerten. Am letzten Tag stiegen wir über den anspruchsvollen Bilko Pass (3475 m, II) und wanderten über den Sawtooth Pass (3570 m) zurück nach Mineral King.
