Mt Baldy (Jan 2023)

With all the Rain and Snow coming to Southern California this winter we wanted to test skiing on Mount Baldy in January. Between two waves of bad weather we had a sunny day with many other hikers climbing the Baldy Bowl. Most snow was very hard, but not icy and well skiable as long as one avoids a fall that might be difficult to arrest. Nice first backcountry skiing outing for James. He sure is suffering with his borrowed boots. Mit dem vielen Regen und Schnee in Südkalifornien diesen winter wollten wir im Januar das Skifahren auf dem Mount Baldy testen. Zwischen zwei Schlechtwetterwellen hatten wir einen sonnigen Tag mit vielen anderen Wanderern in der Baldy Bowl. Der Schnee war großteils sehr hart, aber nicht eisig und gut befahrbar, solange man einen Sturz vermeidet, der schwer zu stoppen sein könnte. Schöner erster Backcountry-Skitag für James. Leider machen ihm die geliehenen Skischuhe große Probleme.
