Bodie ghost town, California

Bodie is a ghost town from the gold rush era of the American West, situated in a remote high desert corner of Mono County, California. In its 1880s heyday, it had a population of about 10,000 and was infamous for its rowdiness and crime. Over the years, over $34 million worth of gold was produced at Bodie mines. Bodie bacame a state historic park in 1962; only 5% of its original buildings (which counted 65 saloons at a time) remain, maintained in a state of "arrested decay". These pictures were taken on a day visit to Bodie in June, 2008.
