The Yellowhammer L 15,5-17cm (6.1-6.6") breeds normally in farmland, bushy marshes, at the edge of forests, grooves and plantations. It is a pretty large and long-tailed bird with red-brown rump and a strong yellowish plumage and obvious white outer tail feathers. The back is olive-brown with dark streaks. The bill is relative small the lower mandible is blue-grey. The adult male is recognised at it's yellow head with dark lines at the crown and head sides. The under part is warm yellow with a olive-green or chestnut breast and red-brown flanks. The adult female is grey-green with a striped crown often with a little yellow spot. The sides of the head is without yellow. The under part is a pale yellow with grey-black stripes at the breast and flanks. |
