My mobile photography started with the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9", a tablet comparable to the iPad. The KF HDX includes an eight megapixel camera, with a 3.7mm f/2.1 lens, roughly equivalent to a 30 or 32mm lens on a 35mm camera. The screen has greater resolution than the latest iPad and the pictures look beautiful.
In April, 2015 I got the Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone, which reviewers say has the best camera of any smartphone, even better than the newest iPhone's. It has 16 megapixels, a 4.3mm f/1.9 lens (seems to be equivalent to about 28mm) and automatic image stabilization. It also features a pro mode, which allows setting of ISO (for some reason, the EXIF data shows ISO of 8000 but this can't be right), white balance, and exposure compensation. The video is excellent, too. It is a fine point and shoot camera.
