Just to show the difference - the left is the LM323K - 5 volt fixed regulator, max of 3 amps. The right is a LM7805 - also a 5 volt fixed regulator, but this one has a max of 1 amp. I needed to upgrade because my servo motors were drawing too much current - one in particular, a big heavy duty one, would completely shut down the circuit when it tried to move - which would reset the microcontroller, which, when it came back up, would try to move the big servo, which would shut down the microcontroller, which would...
Yeah. Needed more juice. I'm actually only feeding it from a wallwart that can provide 2.2 amps, but that's a lot more then the 0.8 amps that I was giving it!
