The Little Gull is the world's smallest gull and when flying next to a Bonaparte's, you can appreciate that it is about the size and weight of a Morning Dove. The short stubby bill gives the bird a very sweet faced look, unlike the fierce apperance of most of the larger gulls.
This first winter Little Gull was found on the lower lake at Reelfoot in Lake Co, TN on Saturday, November 19th. An adult Little Gull was seen coming to the gull roost in the late afternoon, just before this immature was found.
The immature bird was seen from various points along the south shore, off and on all day by myself, Mike Todd, and Nancy Moore. The adult bird was located again, late in the evening on Sunday, at the roost just north of the State Park boardwalk.
