The Blue Mockingbird had been AWOL for over 2 months the next time I drove down to Texas. We were looking for the female Crimson-collared Grosbeak that had been seen at Allen William's place. We had seen this dark bird up in the Mulberry Tree but just passed it off as one of the many Grackles but both of us had commented how odd it looked but no details could be seen through the leaves.
There were only 6 of us there and one lady asked Red and Louise Gambill if the Blue Mockingbird was around and they replied that it had been missing for some time. Then she pointed to a bird behind us and asked what that was. IT WAS THE BLUE MOCKER sitting out in the open but it dove into the brush!
