This bird flew across Interstate 40 near the St. Francis River one foggy overcast, late December morning in the company of a few DC Cormorants. In flight, with DC Cormorants these birds are quite obvious having a slightly different wing cadence, being smaller and having a tail that extends out about as far as the head. The neck is held more extended with less of a crook than seen on DC. I whipped off the highway and searched for quite a while before I came across the bird swimming in a nearby farm pond. This first for Arkansas was soon followed by many more sightings, by others, including a nesting pair in the southwest. Seek and yee shall find...........
