While in the middle of a rain squall that came through today, Mike Todd and I checked out TVA Lake to see if anything was forced down. Before I had stopped the truck, Mike said that there was either a Mottled Duck or a Black Duck in with the flock of Mallards. When I stopped and we looked at the distant birds, the bird he had caught only a glimpse of, had mingled into the bunch, turned face on to us and tucked its head. I was commenting that the dark duck might be just a wet Mallard when the bird raised its head and showed us the spot on the bill. This bird is the second of this species documented in Tennessee.
