Here are three photos of the Dauphin Island Harris's Hawk taken by Don McKee on January 8, 2006. The bird was seen at a great distance, late in the evening, and at the time when the bird finally flew from a distant perch, the white in the tail resulted in an ID of immature Golden Eagle.

I was sent these 3 photos and they were very dark and showed a small image of a dark bird with white in the tail. At the time, I did not enlarge the shots and took the ID as being correct. Later while culling through my photos, I ran across these and had not filed them with the photographers name, so I looked at them more closely before deleting them from my files. Something about the confirmation of the bird made me enlarge and color balance them and suddenly I realized I was looking at a Harris's Hawk. These photos prove the Harris's was on Dauphin Island a full month before it was relocated and correctly identified.
