Eastwell Church

- has an interesting history. The church was destroyed by a V2 bomber during WWII. Having lost the Battle of Bosworth Field to the Tudors, the son of Richard III, his father dead, escaped to Kent and worked on the Eastwell estate as a mason and brick builder. He died in 1550 and his tomb lies in the church grounds. The first manor house at Eastwell was quite possibly built by the ‘would be King’, passed down through the Earls of Winchelsea to be altered and rebuilt to the present day luxury hotel of Eastwell Park in Tudor style.
