Vietnam 2001, 2004

Reunification Express.

Reunification Express... Sounds good, doesn’t it? So we thought and decided to take it from Saigon to Hanoi with stopover in the middle at Danang. First thing first – train tickets that is. I shuffled through some sites on the Internet and found reasonably priced ones offered by Vietnamese tour agency Ann Tours. Turns out that foreigners have to pay 400% higher price for the train tickets comparing to locals. Ok. Let’s distribute the wealth. So we paid for those tickets and agreed to pick them up at tour agency in Saigon upon our arrival.

Then came the day of travel. Hopped on Singapore Air flight to Saigon, got there, went to pick up our tickets and ... ended up with 6 hours to kill before the train. No problem. Eating is a good way to pass time, especially when it accompanied by drinking. So after few hours of leisure strolling around center of Saigon with frequent stops at little eateries we finally got close to our departure time. Flag a taxi, mimic train sounds to the driver (cho-choooooo) and off we go to Ga Sai Gon. Because it’s a final (or beginning in our case) station train was already there and waiting for passengers.
