On 11-07-2009 Enid, Oklahoma had it Veterans Day Parade that was attended by a crowd that was made up of people of all ages.The event began with a flyover from Vance Air Force Base planes followed by a parade of various veterans, military and other organizations.There are an estimated 5,000 veterans living in Garfield County, according to Department of Veteran's Affairs. Taking place in the parade was the Enid Antique Car Club, Enid Corvette Club and the Enid Mustang Club. A number of veterans organizations had floats and trailers on which veterans could ride. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2270, American Legion Post 4, Disabled American Veterans Motorcycle Club, Friends of Disabled Veterans Chapter 1, Blue Star Mothers Chapter 11, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 66, Retired Enlisted Association Chapter 37, National Association of Uniformed Services Chapter 4,Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 940 and Veterans Motorcycle Club participated. Other parade participants included Army National Guard, Armed Forces Recruiters, Vance Air Force Base, area Law Enforcement,Fire Departments and members of the Patriot Guard Motorcycle Unit.
Enid High School Junior ROTC Color Guard took lead in the parade. Grand marshal was Col.Mark C. Nowland, commander of the 71th Flying Training Wing at Vance Air Force Base. Enid VFW was the lead organization for this year's celebration, and co-chairman was Mike Hellman, Ruby Slowik and Ron Slowik.
