Each year Enid and other towns in the north part of Oklahoma celebrates the Cherokee Strip Land Run. In the late 1800's the land in this part of the state was gave away in one big race. People lined up in wagons, on horses and on foot and when the guns fired they all took off to stake a claim. They hoped to get the land they wanted,if someone else didn't get there first. Some jumped the gun and went ahead and staked out their claim - That's where the name Sonners came from, because they got there sonner. The day of the run one of the wagons at the starting line was my great grand parents and my grandpa A.R.(Cub)Parson was in the back of that wagon,he told me he was about 6 years old at the time..
