Most of the time your gear is set in strings of 20-30 pots, usually 7 or 8 per mile. You pull a pot and then charge up on the next one to pull it. Speed is everything. On crappy days like this, you learn quickly to take a step back from the rail when you are charging up to that next pot; when the vessel slows a bit or the captain alerts you on the hailer that it is on the bow....you step forward and begin the process again. Many times someone would hang out near the rail only to get washed across the deck into the sorting table or steel bulwarks.
