heading north from Cesky Krumlov... |
...through the fields and forests of South Bohemia |
we saw quite a few solar power installations |
(and other uses for solar energy) |
arriving at one of the old squares of downtown Pisek |
we take a walk toward the Otava river |
the town hall dominates the old Great Square |
a view up the Otava from Kamenny (Stone) bridge... |
 ...and down-river as well |
the bridge dates from the 1200s and is the oldest surviving in Bohemia |
the town's name derives from 'sand', still plentiful in the area |
now we are heading east along the Pisek-Tabor highway |
here's the attractive small town of Bechyne |
and near Stadlec, we head off the main roads... |
...to visit an historic chain bridge |
this bridge was moved here from its original position over the Vltava river near Podoli I |
it still serves today (if your car is very small!) |
now we have arrived in Tabor |
 it's a very old fortified city... |
...famous as a Hussite stronghold of Jan Zizka in the early 15th century |
most of the central buildings date from the 16th century |
away from the center, the streets are narrow and twisting |
hmmm, still some property available |
there are smaller squares as well up in the old town... |
...which has access to parkland along the river ringing the steep rocky fortifications |
pretty easy to get lost here... |
...but it makes for a pleasant stroll regardless |
