Now I am curious as to what the local birders were saying. The lighting is quite different from the other image but you can still see a number of the same features on both birds.

Thank you for ID help. Less than an hour before, we looked up to see a RS Hawk in a tree that was so close I couldn't acquire focus until I changed lens to LESS than 10 meter setting. See http://www.pbase.com/nsxbirder/image/106701109. Sure doesn't look like same hawk, but distance and lighting may be reason.
