The Desert (Adapted) Elephant is the same species (Loxodonta africana) like the African Elephant which is also named the African Bush Elephant or Savanna Elephant.
The Desert Elephants live in the northwestern part of Namibia where they roam along the dry river beds. This year I had two times the opportunity to watch these fascinating animals mainly in the area of the Hoanib River.
My special thanks go to Dieter Risser from Ondjamba Safaris. Without his experience, knowledge and passion for the Desert Elephants I would not have seen so many facets of their behavior.
