Sadly Past It's Time

Craig County, Virginia

At one time this grand old house must have been absolutely spectacular. This house still stands (precariously) in very rural Craig County, Virginia. So much character and if only the walls of this house could talk. I can only imagine the history and people's lives this place has witnessed. Craig County was founded in 1851 and currently has a population of 4,892 people scattered over 330 square miles. Craig County has a beautiful rural landscape of mountain streams, hilly farm pastures and forested mountains. For hunters and fishermen this area is a paradise.

Excellent point of view nice sharp resolution the roof looks to be in decent shape inside probably dry a restoration home before the foundation started sinking.
A small mansion back in the early days.

One can see how derelict this house is from this side, Dave. It's a shame as I imagine it was a beautiful house back in the day.V

A great find that looks great in this vintage duotone presentation. It does look like it was quite a place in its day. I always wonder why a magnificent house like this was deserted. ~BV~

An exceptional image, sad but yet beautiful. I agree if only the
walls could talk.

Superb evocative image conveys the restrained charm of the place.....the old house was once with stately character but seemed doomed now......and your rich tones underscore the decadence of place and times....V

Looks like it was a beautiful old home at some point. Sad to see it falling apart. This is a fine photo of it. V

What an incredible piece of history!
The toning of this is so perfect!
This has a graceful nature that only you could achieve!

Very nice find and captured Dave. The old places here are disappearing as the land is sold off for new homes. sigh. BV

It reminds me of the Waltons. I can almost hear little kids playing. A sad and poignant sense of loss. V

A beautiful old home for sure. Definately a home with many untold stories.

Very nice shot of this old farmhouse from this vantage point. It still retains some of its grandeur. "V"

It looks like it must have been a grand place in a terrific setting. While no longer habitable, it sure makes for a great subject for super shooters like you.

so extenisve a structure, and key to the lively geometry at work here...it is timeworn for sure, yet retains strong character...the toning accentuates the historical side of the scene...V

It really is a grand old house, and such a pity that it's been abandoned and left to rot. Well spotted and captured, Dave. V.
