This oil painting was based on one of my photographs from my recent camping trip in Smoky Mountain National Park. This is a mostly cloudy very early morning scene from an overlook near one of our campsites during the trip. The small areas of light breaking through the clouds caught my attention. My goal was to create a impressionistic painting of the softness and scattered light with the somewhat foreboding sky. This was how I saw and felt about the Smokies that morning. It started raining soon after I took the photo of this scene.
