Raw Vs JPG

This image, included in another gallery here comparing a 28 F/2 Ai to this 35 F/1.4 Ai, in four different formats. The image was shot on a D200 and Nikkor 35mm F/1.4 Ai and Nikon ND4 filter at 1/250s F/5.6 with in camera sharpening set to +2 (high). A raw NEF and JPG Fine were generated in camera. JPGs were rendered from the NEF images via Nikon Capture NX V1.1 without any changes. Downsized full frame images in 1024x685 of each, and 100% crops.

Note the additional contrast and saturation of the NEF generated images, as well as a relatively huge increase in sharpness. It is clear to me, having reviewed many snaps of this scene with many lenses, that only a Raw file can take full advantage of the acuity and overall fine image quality of this lens.
