The daily phases of the moon. A four year (to date) effort and possibly a lifetime obsession?

The age of the moon is indicated in days and hours beneath each thumbnail. Day 0 hour 0 is a very special moon :-)

On Sept 10, 2007 I ran across a 3 year old image of the 6th day, which I had never uploaded here. That image completes the basic daily lunar phases, except for a 1 day new moon; a difficult subject that I have been chasing for years. Also on this date I replaced days 16 and 18-27 with new images from a marathon continuous run in late August to early September 2007. The old images were moved to a new gallery that will contain these old images in order to preserve old net links. See the main Astro gallery.

On April 25, 2009 I got my one day moon - 20 hours 51 minutes.

A careful inspection of the images reveals some inconsistent daily transitions, which is a result of shooting specific days in different months. Coordinating the varying daily hours within a day at time of capture, plus the varying length of the lunation (orbital period), and librations of the moon make this a very difficult project. As time goes on I will attempt to improve upon these images.
