The Free Lancers hosted the annual Jousting Championship the final weekend of the Maryland Renaissance Faire, October 20-21. I shot the 2pm and 4pm passes both days. These shots include all the easy to locate broken tips, four shattered lances AND my second no-question tip-to-tip strike this year, this time with one broken tip. The other tip-to-tip is in the gallery just above and you should have seen it on your way in here. It's a must see image.
A THIRD possible/probable tip-to-tip is presented here for your consideration. That image includes the tips within an inch of each other. Three in one season, two in one weekend... not too shabby.
I present all the passes in chronological order. This year I have heavily annotated the comments, especially with the location of the tips, which can be hard to locate in smaller web images. I have a tough enough time with full size images! I left out a few broken tips that I thought were not presented well and would be difficult to locate even with a description. Sometimes the tips go sideways and just aren't very dramatic. It's the luck of the draw.
To see the really good stuff, like the tip to tip with broken tip, you have to go though it all. Virtually every image is at least a broken tip.
These are rather large images because they include fine important detail such as broken tips. I didn't want you to have to squint too hard! If you are uncomfortable with the default image size, click "Large" or "Medium" below an image and you will see a smaller image than "Original".
I want to thank Squire Rowan Grey for the huge job she did, going through each image, adding names and correcting errors. I could not have provided these annotations without her help! I hope we meet face to face next season!
Late breaking news: I discovered my FOURTH tip to tip shot this year after seeing a comment left by Sir Edward Grey mentioning a tip to tip against Sir Soltoro sometime this weekend (time and date not specified). In reviewing my images, I came up with images 104150 and 104151 below... this is the THIRD tip to tip strike photographed this championship weekend.
