DSCN_164168.JPG

1/2000s f/9.0 at 420 ISO 800

One of 6 frames from my Chincoteague 2009 gallery. I shot even more frames of this pass, all but one in critically sharp focus. This was my first wildlife outing with the D700 and I stopped down becauser that's what you do with a TC :-). It was unnecessary, as I've found, with the TC14 and TC17 although the extra DOF may have helped given that this was a very difficult AF target.

The Heron lauched itself from a perch about 30 feet distant, not more, and flew at about a 30 degree angle to me. It was shot at Chincoteague, on the Canal on the north side of Beach Road near the Tom's Hook Visitor Center. The Night Herons congregate there in the bushes on the other side of the canal/ditch.

It was this set of images that made me think this lens and camera combo might be special :-)
