During the winter months the Lifeguard Towers on the beach are not occupied. Instead there are roving Guards that patrol the beaches using pickups. But sometimes when the waves are really big, like now, there are water rescue teams on jet skis that push out into the surf to protect the surfers and swimmers who have figuratively and literally gotten in over their heads. I spotted this crew fighting their way through the surf to deploy. These first responders risk their lives daily in the ocean and each year make hundreds of rescues.
