I spotted this gorgeous young hawk in an old pine tree while on a walk through the San Diego Botanic garden, but I didn't think I had a chance at a good shot. The tree was quite a ways off and the hawk was perched on a branch in the shade surrounded by other branches. Then suddenly it moved to a branch that was in the sunlight and that gave me just enough separation of the subject to get a clean image of the hawk in its natural environment.
