PCA-SHN/BRI Tour of West Virginia, Green Bank -- Aug. 8, 2015

"The Wild & Wonderful West Virginia Tour," held on Aug. 8 to 10, was jointly organized by the Shenandoah and Blue Ridge regions of the Porsche Club of America. The photos here cover only the first day's activities, which began with a scenic drive from the Charlottesville, VA, area to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, WV. After lunch, the participants were treated to a fascinating and informative tour of the observatory's facilities, highlighted by the famous Green Bank Telescope. The day ended with dinner at the Brazen Head Inn in Mingo, WV, and an overnight stay at the Snowshoe Mountain Resort's Rimfire Lodge. The following morning, my wife and I headed home via some of West Virginia's many wonderful back roads and mountain roads.

On the second day, the other tour attendees rode the Cass Scenic Railroad to Whittaker Station, took a driving tour and then had dinner at The Junction restaurant in Snowshoe. The third day was spent driving to the Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV, where the participants took a guided tour of the resort's Cold War bunker.

I am happy to share here 10 photos I took during the first day of this three-day event, as well as five photos taken by another participant using a disposable film camera. The organizers handed out a few single-use film cameras because electronic devices, including digital cameras, had to be turned off in sensitive areas of the Green Bank complex.
