This driving tour took 37 PCA Chesapeake members and friends in 19 cars on scenic back roads and old-fashioned highways through Maryland's Baltimore and Harford counties as we headed to Dallastown in Pennsylvania's York County. It started at the Park & Ride Lot in Parkton, MD, near the heart of Hereford.

After about an hour on the road, or 42.5 miles, we arrived at the lovely Wyndridge Farm, which has a wonderful restaurant, craft brewery and cidery. Twenty-four of us had lunch at the restaurant, while 13 had lunch at the adjacent brewery. This was Stage 1 of the tour.

Stage 2, which was 53.5 miles long, took tour participants through scenic roads in York, Carroll and Baltimore counties. We concluded the tour in a mostly empty parking lot on the backside of the Hunt Valley Town Centre in Cockeysville. Altogether, Stages 1 and 2 covered 96 miles, crossing the Mason-Dixon Line twice: first, on the way north toward Pennsylvania, and then on way back south toward Maryland.

What's the story behind the name of this tour? Wikipedia sums it up this way: "The Mason–Dixon Line, also called the Mason and Dixon Line or Mason's and Dixon's Line, was surveyed between 1763 and 1767 by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon in the resolution of a border dispute involving Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware in Colonial America. It is still a demarcation line among four U.S. states, forming part of the borders of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and West Virginia (originally part of Virginia before 1863)."

The Encyclopædia Britannica says, today, "the Mason and Dixon Line ... serves figuratively as the political and social dividing line between the North and the South, although it does not extend west of the Ohio River."

The "Mason-Dixon Line Tour" was the ninth event offered this year by the Tour & Rally Committee of the Porsche Club of America's Chesapeake Region. Capacity limited, it was sold out soon after it was announced.
