"Like so many Lotus cars, the Elan was revolutionary, with its fiberglass body over a rigid backbone frame, fully-independent suspension that really worked and disc brakes all around. The Ford-based twin cam [engine] offered excellent performance in the incredibly light Elan, which also had fabulous road-holding. Add great looks and the result was a sports car that set new standards that many automakers chased for years. This car was formerly owned by Road & Track columnist Peter Egan, and was the subject of several of his columns during its restoration." -- Simeone Automotive Museum
