St. Michaels Concours d'Elegance, Part 3: Award Winners -- September 2012

This is Part 3 of my series of three galleries on the sixth annual St. Michaels Concours d'Elegance held on Sept. 30, 2012, at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland. About 70 cars were entered from the prewar (1900-1941) and postwar (1946-1962) periods. The museum was the beneficiary of the funds raised by the event. For more information, visit the concours's Web site at http://www.smcde.org/ .

The automobiles that won class and other awards are the subject of this gallery. As the honorary chairman of the 2012 concours, Malcolm S. Pray, Jr., of Greenwich, CT, brought along six gorgeous cars from his fabulous collection. They were "for exhibit only" and not entered in the competition for the various awards, except for "People's Choice," which his 1937 Bugatti Type 57-C Roadster won. (Update: Unfortunately, Malcolm Pray passed away in August 2013.) There were three award-winning entries that I was not able to photograph: W.R. Gaertner's 1953 Jaguar XK120 Coupe, Willem Van Huystee's 1936 Buick (BUICK 1st place) and Noble Teat's 1926 Ford Model TT truck (WOODIE 2nd place).

A welcome treat in 2012 was the visit of PBase friend and Colorado photographer Dan Greenberg, who came to Maryland for The Rodder's Journal Vintage Speed & Custom Car Revival held in Baltimore Sept. 28-30. I invited him to join me and another friend at the St. Michaels Concours on the 30th and he came, which is fortunate for all of us who follow and enjoy his outstanding work on PBase. As I expected, Dan's visit to this event has yielded an impressive gallery of fabulous images: https://pbase.com/dlgphoto/stmichaels12 .

To shoot the photos for this gallery, I used a handheld Nikon D300 with an 18-200mm Nikkor VR zoom lens Note that the images and other content here are protected by copyright laws. All rights are reserved. Unauthorized use, copying, printing or direct linking is prohibited.
