Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion's Tribute to Dan Gurney -- August 2010

The 2010 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion was held Aug. 12 through 15. This year's event honored the legendary Dan Gurney and his cars. Now 79, Dan has the distinction of having competed in 20 countries -- driving 51 makes of cars, racing in 312 events, winning 51 of them, and posting 98 podium finishes. His triumphs include victories in seven Formula 1 races (four with championship points), seven Indy Car events, and five NASCAR contests, as well as endurance racing victories at Le Mans, Daytona, Sebring, and Nurburgring.

I am pleased to share my own photos of Dan Gurney and some of his race cars in this gallery, which is the first of 10 in my 2010 series on the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, formerly called the Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races. I shot the photos in this gallery on Aug. 14 with a handheld Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 18-200mm VR zoom. Some of them are marked CR in their captions, to indicate that cropping was done. The rest are as-is, straight from the camera, with no post-processing. All have been resized for online viewing.
